M3 Junction 9 improvements project – weekend closures October & November

Earlier this year the new M3 roundabout bridge beams were lifted into place. Since then, work has progressed on new road alignments and surfacing.

Now that all traffic is running on the new M3 junction 9 roundabout alignment the old bridges have to be demolished as well as additional carriageway work completed on the M3 northbound exit slip road such as associated widening work.

The work will mainly be surfacing and kerbing, which involves large machines such as planers and asphalt layers.

Due to the complex work needed it will be closed it for a full weekend. This is planned for:

• 9pm Friday 9 October to 6am to 6am Monday 12 October
  • M3 northbound exit slip road diversion

M3 northbound between junctions 10 and 8 to safely install and remove barriers for the slip road closure.

• Friday 9 October and Sunday 11 October closed overnight (9pm to 6am)
  • M3 northbound junctions 10 and 8 diversion

Bridge Demolitions

The work will mostly involve using large machines placed on the M3, which will break up the old bridge decks and supports on to the carriageways below, ready to be taken off site and processed for recycling.

Due to the nature of the demolition work the M3 will need to be closed in both directions between junctions 8 and 9 over two weekends. These are planned for:

• 9pm Friday 23 October to 6am Monday 26 October 2026 (northern bridge demolition)
• 9pm Friday 6 November to 6am Monday 9 November 2026 (southern bridge demolition)
  • M3 junction 9 to 8 northbound and southbound diversions

You are advised not to use a Satnav when following any of the diversions because there is a risk it could direct you down an unsuitable road or back onto our network when it is closed.
